Nicholson Rd

daily photoblog 2010
Similarly to my rboVision project in 2006, I recently began a daily photoblog. Named Nicholson Rd, Daily, after the name of the street I grew up on, my focus is on the environments, communities, and landmarks of the Metro Vancouver area. My goal is to capture a new, wonderful photo every day, and process it a little, then post it at midnight on that same day - and map everything with Google Maps!
The Website
I designed the Nicholson Rd, Daily site to be clean and minimal, like the rboVision site. The main difference with this design is the size and orientation of the photos - I was no longer afraid of people illegally saving my work, I just wanted to share my take on the world!
Clean and minimal was the goal, but the site needed some interest to keep people coming back. I settled on a bold, Rockwell-inspired fontface, with shades of black and grey to anchor the photos. I also didn't want to force myself to shoot the same 3x4 photos I did with rboVision, so constricting the photos width-wise seemed to be the best solution.
On the gallery page, I just wanted simple thumbnails.. but the map is where the focus really lies. I want to show people how much of the Metro I've seen, and to try and cover the entire area, from Bowen Island and Lions Bay, to Langley and Whiterock. It's a beautiful region, and it seems so many people barely get out of their neighbourhood, or their regular commuting route!
