rboVision

daily photoblog 2006-7
In 2006 I decided to begin a daily photoblog. The photos weren't always posted on the day they were taken, but there was always a new photo up every day at midnight. Although sometimes it was a challenge to stay creative and keep the project going, I knew it would be worth it in the end - and after doing it for a little over a year, I can certainly say I'm pleased by the collection of images I created.
The Website
Of course a photoblog is no good if nobody can see the photos! So I developed rboVision as simply as I could, using MovableType and the Paginate and Grid plugins to hold it all together.
I didn't want flashy graphics and colours to take away from the photos - as I process them, I don't take into account any outside influences on the composition, so I didn't want anything disrupting the final photo. The layout then became a very simple main image with a row of navigation buttons to go back and forth through the photos, view a page about me, a page showing some links, and a gallery or archive of all the earlier photos.
I wanted the other pages on the site to maintain the same 'gallery' feel, so I gave them their own background images and placed the text on top. The gallery/archive page was a simple 3x3 grid of the past 9 photos.
I really liked how it turned out, and having just finished uploading a static version of the site almost 2 years after I stopped publishing photos to it, I must say I'm pleased at how timeless the design seems :) (but I could do without that last image showing on the index page!... real eyebrows will make a comeback!)
