Cohort Model
Information Model 2006
Upon reading David K Foot's Boom, Bust & Echo 2000, my team was assigned the task of modeling the concepts in an easy-to-understand, visual format. Because the book focused primarily on Canadian demographics and how we can use them to study the past, and make predictions for the future, I decided a simple, photo-heavy 'trend board' approach would work quite well. It would provide information on the styles and trends of the time, whether product, fashion, or otherwise, as well as significant events, and the size and 'level of opportunity' for each cohort. I'm pretty pleased with the final result!

The model was created in Adobe Illustrator using some of my own photos, and CC-friendly photos from Flickr or Google, attributed in a secondary slide. The horizontal axis corresponds to the progression of time, while the vertical axis is a measurement of the economic/social opportunity available. The size and shape of the clusters correspond to the size and duration of each cohort population, and display photos of events or trends that are significant to that group. Dates are included for further clarification. I theorized and designed this model, while my teammates gathered many of the images. For more information on this model, I suggest you read Foot's Boom, Bust & Echo 2000. A full-size pdf version is available here.
